One of the saddest things I learned in 2020
When was the last time you threw your head back and laughed?
On average, a 4-year-old laughs 300 times per day. It takes a 40-year-old 10 WEEKS to reach that number!!
Now, it is true that I’m slightly closer to 40 than to 4… but I feel like my laugh-o-meter is higher than that.
Research from Bagdonas and Aaker, a psychology professor at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, found that humour dramatically decreases after 23, which is about the time that people start their “career”!
This is devastatingly sad, right?
Humour is a superpower that is often missing in the corporate world. Leaders who are considered to have a ‘sense of humour’ (research suggests) are 23% more respected, 25% more pleasant to work with, and 17% friendlier.
At High Definition You we make a point to smile. We make a point to laugh. We make a point to have smiling and laughing integrated into all our programs. Because we know that when you get the cocktail of hormones in our brains that accompany laughter, we are more resilient, creative and resourceful. It suppresses cortisol (the stress hormone) and we learn better!
So, my coaching challenge to you this week is:
Find something to laugh about, and make someone else laugh this week! What will you do to laugh properly and have silliness in your life? I mean really belly laugh, snorting, tear inducing, cross your legs level of laughter!!
And if you want any help with it then give me a call to see how a laughter-filled High Definition Program could change 2021 for you / your organisation. Let’s have a laugh together!
And, if no-one else tells you today, let me be the one to tell you – I’m grateful for you. Thank you for letting me be a part of your day and thank you for being a part of my world!
With gratitude,
